| HOCKEY PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Season Commitment
The season generally runs from September through mid-March. All players are required to provide a copy of their birth certificate to the team manager when requested. Mighty Moose is a House organization that focuses on skill development to prepare players for advancement to the Competitive level. All practices and home games are played at Subway Sports Centre located at 11111 O'Malley Centre Drive, in South Anchorage.
Players can expect to be on the ice 2 to 3 times per week, depending on division. Teams practice and play games on the same days and time each week. Schedules for the regular season will be established upon team formation. Tournaments and additional games may be added throughout the season at Coach discretion.
Financial Responsibilities
A non-refundable deposit of $100 is due at time of evaluations, which holds a place in the Mighty Moose and pays for ice for evaluation purposes. The entire cost for 2008-2009 season is outlined below. If your child does not get placed on a team then you will be refunded the $100. Accounts must be paid in full by December unless prior arrangements have been made.

Mighty Moose Mission Statement
The South Anchorage Mighty Moose (SAMM) will provide the opportunity for the youth of Anchorage to develop at the highest level for each individual player, the skills necessary to play the game of hockey. SAMM will insist that its coaches, parents and players understand and live by fair play and sportsmanship. SAMM believes that the game of hockey teaches not only physical skills but should teach life skills necessary for our youth to develop into good citizens of our community.
Equal Ice Policy
The Association policy is that each coach strives to give equal ice to all players during practices, scrimmages and games. The Association believes that the coach may discount this policy only in the last five minutes of a game or anytime during tournament play. Additionally, a coach may limit game time only for a transgression of an approved rule. The coach is required to note on score sheet prior to a game commencement when limiting playing time for this reason. The Discipline Committee may review violations of this policy.
History of the Association
The Association was formed officially in July 1999 when it incorporated with the State of Alaska. The goals that the association is striving to obtain have been discussed around hockey rinks for many years. The construction of the O'Malley Ice Rink allowed changes in the way house teams were allocated ice, how coaches were selected, and how a hockey association was operated. SAMM is a house tier III program which stresses practice ice allocation. Because of our ground floor involvement with the Subway Sports Centre, we are able to offer a stable practice schedule, unlike most, if not all other house programs in Anchorage. This meets guidelines set by USA Hockey for developmental programs. Our scheduling of ice allows opportunities for families to spend time away from the rink. The program encourages parents to be involved with the association. It strives to bring children to their highest hockey potential.
Fundraising
The Association is looking for members who can devote time to serious fundraising activities. If you are interested, please contact us at 336-7242.
